Today MetroPed teamed up with the Charles River Transportation Management Association and Petsi Pies to bring bicycle commuters a free breakfast along the Minuteman Bike Path at the Alewife T station. With scones, coffee, and bicycle schwag in hand, we thanked our fellow for choosing the bicycle as their mode of transportation.
I got to see all types of cyclists including the everyday commuter, a tandem couple, recumbents, and even those lycra fanatics. As a part of Bay State Bike Week, Mass DOT and Mass Bike have teamed up to present the 2010 Bay State Challenge where Massachusetts businesses, schools and municipalities log their miles they commute by other forms of transportation other than their personal gas guzzlers. Last year alone, Massachusetts residents logged over 125,000 miles in just one week! Please show your support by taking the challenge and logging your miles here. It continues through the week, so there are plenty of days left!
For those of you chasing the free scones, coffee and bike prizes, ride to work, show you know how to use your helmet and show up at these locations here throughout the week. You don’t have to make this week an excuse to ride though because every day is a great day to show some pedal power!
